After the war there were new Allies where there were enemies. Towards the end of the war, those that were a part of the Axis powers had suddenly switched and teamed up with the allies. Countries like Italy, Romania, and Hungary were ones that had been coerced to join the Axis ranks in the beginning. Once the war was won, and Germany signed the papers to surrender, the rebuilding began.
On January 1, 1941 the standing Allie powers signed the Declaration of the United Nations, they stated that, "stating that a complete victory against their adversaries was necessary if "life, liberty, independence and religious freedom" were to be defended, human rights and justice preserved in "their own lands as well as in other lands, and that they [were] engaged in a common struggle against savage and brutal forces seeking to subjugate the world" (New World Encyclopedia, 2016).
Then on August 14, 1941, The Atlantic Charter was negotiated. The conference held between FDR and Churchill stated a vision for post WWII, this proved to be one of the first steps towards the beginning of the United Nations.
"In brief, the nine points were:
The war finally ended in 1945, "At the Potsdam Conference of July-August 1945, U.S. President Harry S. Truman (who had taken office after Roosevelt’s death in April), Churchill and Stalin discussed the ongoing war with Japan as well as the peace settlement with Germany" (history.com). The Allies needed Russia's help to end the war with Japan, they also needed a plan of peace for Germany. There would be four zones that would be occupied by Great Britain, Russia, America, and France in regards to post-war Germany. Finally on September 2nd, the Japanese government surrendered and accepted the terms of the Potsdam Conference (history.com). The war that cost the lives of millions was finally at an end. Sadly with the shift in economic status, and America coming out as one of the great super powers, the shift would soon cause the Cold War to start between the Soviet Union and America (history.com).
